Passive Aggressive about Abortion

I woke this morning to see that Governor Dayton has vetoed a bill that was stupid to it’s very core, again don’t we have a financial situation to worry about in this state instead of this nonsense. I’m speaking of a bill, and I have to be specific because these days in Minnesota when you say “lame bill” many people would have trouble narrowing it down the one you might be thinking off, so track with me people, the one that I’m talking about in this instance is the one which will require all clinics in Minnesota that provide abortion services to have a license.

What? We don’t license abortion clinics in Minnesota, that’s crazy you say.

Settle down out there, the state of Minnesota licenses every medical clinic in Minnesota, every surgery center, every doctor’s office, every hospital, every pharmacy, and every place where legitimate medical services are provided. Therapists, dieticians, psychologists, osteopaths, optometrists, massage therapists, even homeopaths and chiropractors all get a license.

Whoops, on further research I’m happy to report that homeopathy is not licensed in Minnesota, its lumped in with aroma therapy, faith healing, phrenology, crystals, herbalism , Christian Science and witchcraft. Thank goodness science prevails in this case.

I digress.

My point is this, any clinic in Minnesota which provides abortion services to women, already has a license to do so, since abortion falls under the heading of something called outpatient surgery. Creating another class of licensure, one which specifically calls out one procedure because you don’t like that procedure and you don’t like the idea that other people are getting that procedure, is lame.

BTW, since the anti crowd seems to like Orwellian language when they tell us that banning abortion will make the world a better place for mothers, let me put in your terms, it’s double-plus ungood, all clear here? Good.

I see this as sort of the legislative manifestation of that Minnesota value we all know and love; passive aggressiveness. If you want to impose your beliefs on the rest of us lets us vote on it please, or you vote on and have your day in the sun, call it what it is and make abortion illegal, just don’t put artificial barriers in place to make it “harder” for people to do something you don’t like.

Same goes with the idea that a doctor has to be present when a woman takes RU486 to terminate a pregnancy. Abortion foes hate the idea that a termination could be as safe and simple as a pill, so we’ll create a somewhat unreasonable barrier by requiring a physician to sit and watch the woman swallow the pill. Either make it illegal or don’t, to do otherwise is chickenshit.

And to his credit our Governor, the honorable Mark Dayton, who I believe to be more than just slightly swiped with the moron brush, vetoed the bill. While he may be something of a moron, and every time I hear him talk “moron” is the first thing I think, he is “our moron” so I thank him for this one ray of common sense.

Admittedly in the most underhanded and passive aggressive way I could, but in my defense I lived here a long time and you people are rubbing off on me.
